Why fly with a SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS? Because there are times when you want to be able to “see” what you otherwise can’t while looking straight ahead and see critical flight information both.

Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS) turns night into day and turns the unseen into seen by creating a thermal image of the outside view. They are used in search and rescue, firefighting, and other critical missions.

The HUD EVS overlays this image with critical flight information and puts it all in the pilot’s line of sight. The pilot can then keep their head up and eyes forward coupled with the information they need for precise, safe flight.

HUD EVS overlays the “view” ahead with critical flight data all in the pilot’s line of sight. Safe.

The system cuts through low-visibility conditions like smoke, smog, fog and darkness by displaying high-clarity visual references on the HUD to allow pilots to see what is actually ahead. It will bring terrain and obstacles to life and make visible runways, vehicles, aircraft, people or animals that are in the airport environment ahead of when they would normally be visible.

The SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS allows the pilot to maintain their focus outside the aircraft to “see” earlier those things that can disrupt a stabilized flight. The pilot maintains precision flight without the distraction and potential hazard of bringing their eyes inside the cockpit to view and absorb all of this information.

ENHANCED OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES

Increased Number Of Night Flights

More flights can be completed at night with the confidence of being able to see and go around clouds and other weather events. The airport environment will become more alive and the ability to see things such as animals on the runway are enhanced, all of which improves flight safety.

More Effective/Safer Firefighting

Firefighters need the capability to “see” through smoke and hit hot spots on the ground. As these pilots tend to be flying by hand, greater stability is achieved with their head not in the cockpit where loss-of-control might result from diversion of focus. Both are improved with the SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS.

Safer Flights In Smoke, Mist, Fog & Low Ceilings

When flying in and around smoke or landing at a low ceiling airport, the ability to have the ability to “see” what is ahead without having to bring your head inside the cockpit ensures hitting your target without the risk of going off track while looking inside.

Safer Approach & Landing In Low Visibility Situations

Safety during approach and landing in low visibility situations is enhanced. A stabilized approach is easier to maintain when the runway environment can be picked up earlier. Obstacles of structures, terrain, and vehicles or animals or other aircraft on the runway are easier to be seen made visible by the system and more likely to be seen head up and eyes out.

System Requirements

The SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS is an option to any of our SKYDISPLAY HUD systems. This adds the capability to receive analog or digital video for visibility in the display. Acceptable inputs are RS-170 composite, SD, HD or 3G-SDI video formats.

The SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS software will allow for full control over the EVS image and the overlay of the flight data screens.

EVS System - Max•Viz by Astronics & SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS

Max•Viz by Astronics offers the world’s most widely deployed enhanced vision systems for airframe OEMs and general aviation pilots. Used in search and rescue, firefighting, police, construction, and other critical missions, their EVS units are improving visibility and safety every day on fixed-wing and rotorcraft worldwide.

Max•Viz assisted in the development of the SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS system to bring their thermal image into a head up, eyes out view, a capability many of their customers sought.

Their systems use infrared sensors, signal processing, and advanced cockpit displays to show terrain, runways, taxiways, and obstacles in poor visibility conditions such as fog, smoke, precipitation, and darkness.

Astronics enhanced vision systems are compact, lightweight, reliable, and affordable. These systems are linefit and retrofit options for most small fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft, with STCs on Airbus, Boeing, Bell, Cessna, King Air, Leonardo, Sikorsky, and many other airframes.
